Once I began a book, I couldn’t put it down. It was like an addiction; I read while I ate, on the train, in bed until late at night, in school, where I’d keep the book hidden so I could read during class. But I had almost no desire to talk with anyone about the experience I gained through books and music. I felt happy just being me and no one else. »Haruki Murakami (via bookshelves)

one of my resolutions last year was to read one book every month. this was the only resolution i kept, and i rekindled my love for books. i learned a lot of new things from my readings in 2009.

february: north angerabbey by jane austen
march: pilgrim’s progress by john bunyan
april: gulliver’s travels by jonathan swift; where am i wearing? by kelsey timmerman
may: the little prince by antoine de saint exupery
june: anne of green gables by lucy maud montgomery
july: twilight by stephenie meyer
august: the princess bride by william goldman (my new favorite book!!)
september: a wrinkle in time by madeleine l’engle; new moon by stephenie meyer
october: extremely loud and incredibly close by jonathan safran foer
november: eclipse by stephenie meyer; a wind in the door by madeleine l’engle

the grapes of wrath by john steinback

i recently watched a biography of cesar chavez and it struck my interest. the fight for farm worker rights started way before his time. he was such a great leader and organizer!
